They just help your poke to evolve a good example would be Eevee, with different stones it can evolve into different things but stones for other pokes they are kinda useless as you still have to meet the level requirements in order to evolve your poke :o

I don't think Da Man did an accurate evolution system for many Pokemon besides some starters and Eevee. So basicly the only three stones that are worth anything as of yet are the Fire, Water, and Thunder stones.
