I just registered a few hours ago or so. I've gotten the gist of how to play the game and such. The basics, if you will. I was just curious about a few things, really. Do the Pokemon you've caught evolve through EXP? Or do they not even evolve, and you have to just catch it's evolution if you want it? Also, is it necessary that you do the lab tasks to even get an opportunity to catch the other five types (with normal aside)?

you battle the non playble characters to gain xp then go to you pokemon and there should be an evolve pokemon at top...

It's your decision if you want your Pokemon to evolve.
In lab task, you'll have to do it if you want the lab points for the shadow/rainbow ball. It's only the two colored type Pokemon.
