why cant i race a pokemon even if its the same type(cursed/etc.)

it have to be the same pokemon.. example if there a cursed charmander on the races, then you have to have a cursed charmander to races it, it cant be any other cursed pokemon.

oh ok i get you now, the rules dont explain well then.i guess shadowdragonite is trapped there until someone evolves the other shadow dratini

If its a normal pokemon in the racetracks,it can race any other normal pokemon
Say if there is a normal golduck in the racetracks,it can race any normal pokemon

this is a related question, what exactly happens when you race a pokemon? it sounds like one person loses their poke permanently and it goes to whoever wins the race? so is it like gambling, then?
