to me the shadow sprite is easy but the lighting effect to me is hard

I found this tutorial quite helpful as I am not good in shadow sprites I got great outcome 8/10.

you can do it by only the pen tool, its so easy to do just select the pen tool and start to make lines and then add a stroke to them and an out light so you can add the lightning effect ..
