Can you not bid on a pokemon that is higher then your trainer level?

If I'm correct I don't think you can. I know for sure you cannot race a pokemon if it's higher than your Trainer Level. It's not too pleasant but it gives new people a reason to train. One way you can get away with this is to loan a pokemon and then a person can train it to whatever level and you can still receive your pokemon back.

If your trainer level is below 500, then you can bid up to level 500 on pokemon. But as your trainer level increases, there is a trading cap.
