I Just use gimp.

I really like them, Lightning would be a good little effect, but it is difficult to make it look cool :P

Very nice shadow work here, i wish i could make them as well as you (mine just look like a purple mess). I look forward to seeing more shadows from you (especially with the lightning which i believe you might be able to do with the pencil tool and a soft glow, but i'm not too sure on if that'd ever work or not.)
