i dont understand the whole gaining of candies i have zero at the moment and i dont know how to get them apperently you need costumes but i have no idea where to get costumes or how to do anything in terms of trying to get the rare pokes.

Change your theme to "Dream Eater" in Preferences. Then go to the Old House and put in the password "pumpkin". You get your costume/s there and then start trick or treating the towns you have costumes for. Finally trick or treat other players to get more candy.
