This isn't exactly a battle royale. Battle royale was a japanese novel (essentially what we know as the original "Hunger Games" cough* copiers) that featured highschool students fighting to the death in a bloody battle of betrayal.
When you say a battle royale between anime characters, it'd be a literal "fight to the death" not really a popularity contest haha
