Sylph nodded. "Why are they after us?"

"Deadeye worked for your Dad the same time I did. We were close, like brothers. Then we both went into the military, and he got messed up, bad. I co-signed with Sergeant Matthew Ray Vaughn for his immediate discharge after an attempted suicide. He escaped the mental institution and has been trying to find me ever since. I've been able to evade him. Vaughn wasn't so lucky." Edward said.

Sylph nodded. "I know that institution.... My dad sent me there because I wouldn't kill things."

"Did you ever meet him? His full name is James Baulschoff, doctors told me he used to yell at people who sat in his chair." Edward said

"I'm the person he yelled at. I was deaf in my left ear for years.... I think I still am." Sylph stated.

"Wow, sorry to hear that. Deadeye's messed up, there's no doubt of that, but I never figured out why he went back to the gang." Edward said.

Sylph nodded.

"All he ever talked about was how much he hated being part of a gang, and when he.....hmmm.." Edward trailed off.

"Hm?" Sylph asked.

"Well for one thing if Deadeye's doing what I think he's doing your dad's got about an hour to live." Edward said. "Deadeye always said that when he returned him and I were going to destroy the gang. Deadeye has waited 6 years, now he wants to do it in front of me to show that he can. He's going to lure your dad here, using us, then he's going to shoot him, then us. Because that's how Deadeye works, he doesn't."

Sylph's face went pale.

"Our only opening will be to hope your dad is able to dodge the first bullet, then we might be able to escape. Either that, or I call Jason." Edward said.

"I-I don't know what to say...." Sylph said, thinking about his impending doom.

Edward got out his phone. "Jason? Yeah, come fast. I don't care if you drive that truck so hard the tires are gone when it gets here, just get here." Edward said.

Sylph stared at the ground.
