One thing tugged at the young bat's mind.
Her ability to manipulate darkness, also known as umbrakinesis.
She had it since she was little. Her parents and brother certainly didn't have it, so Nocturna had no idea why she was the one with the ability. She was trying to gain more control over it, but sometimes, especially when afraid or angry, Nocturna loses rein of her power.

I was reading a book

After Nocturna was finished with her shift, she flew into the woods. Her powers only worked in the dark, at night, or when there are shadows. The thick forest had plenty of the last one, allowing her to practice her powers in peace.

I sighed "Wow after that sack of money I hoped you'd at least acknowledge me." I muttered

Nocturna focused, and darkness formed from the shadow of a spindly tree. Tangible darkness, as she had noticed many times, looked like a cloud of thick, black smoke. Without the stinging smell of ashes, of course. She formed it into a silly face, chuckling to herself at her work.

I simply used my telekenetic powers to bring another book over to me

Nocturna changed the silly face into a tentacle-shape, lifting it to break off a branch off of one of the trees.

I was going back to reading

Nocturna was impressed with her performance. Usually, she didn't do this well.

After awhile I put the book away

Nocturna flew up to the air, and she saw someone in the distance.

I walked off

As the stranger began moving away, the bat grew curious and followed him.

I simply dashed into some nearby shadows
