Here is a piece of advice
Catch any useless pokemon train it thi level 200 it will fetch you a good deal at the auction I sold my macargo for like 90 coins |

Wait for a cheap promo (40-60 coins), buy it then sell it for about 120 make a secondary account (its allowed) and buy+sell it again

As above buy and sell promo's for profit also avoid betting as you will lose all your coins :/
Auction you will get less coins for whatever your selling i got like 1,300 coins for a like 2,200 and a level 2,200 is worth 10 level 1,000's btw. You can auction the level 200 but don't train them too high or you will have hardly any profit, but when i get coins i spend mine instantly because some pokemon increase in worth, but coins will always have the same value :o |
