NessUnderling has a good point on that, but here's one that someone pointed out to me. Pokemon may be an alien, robotic race. Notice in pokemon that you don't see one animal that we have here in the real world. Also, as the generations get further along, these things look more robotic. Also, why would animals just willingly fight for our amusement, knowing it could kill them. They live in little balls and turn in to tiny swirls of energy to get in those balls. The older generations look more like our animals and the newer look more like genetic experiments on humans or possibly robots that were built to replace humans. The humans are always trying to train and battle these, even at the cost of growing food and advancing society. When a pokemon neads to be 'healed' after a battle, they take it and hook it up to a machine for a minute and poof, it's fully recovered. That spells robot alien overlords to me.

It's a children's anime, why would a child want their main character to grow up, get messy or start dating? He's not supposed to age. -.-
