i think that it is the 2nd choice because we found it and called it orange because its color was orange.

This is like which came first the chicken or the egg but of course the egg came first so i would say the colors. Because oranges don't grow every but the color orange can be seen mostly everywhere so i would say 1st the color.

Through out time, brains have grown and given us alphabets and ways to describe things in a more evolved manner.
