I think it's called orange (fruit) is called orange (color) because of it's color. So the second choice.

I agree with kinjiyu, it's called like that, because of it's color.
it can also be... that the color is called orange, because of the fruit.
I guess I'm somewhere in the middle.

I think orange is one of those things that happened by coincidence. Like I mean i think its just shear coincidence that the fruit orange happens to be the color orange if you know what i mean. Like apples come in several colors, so it isn't the same. There are things in the world you just have to shrug your shoulders at and this is definitely one of them

It is possible the the fruit was named after the color. Some fruits are named after their characteristic such as pineapple and starfruit. (Yes star fruit is a real fruit, it is yellow in color and when sliced in half it has the shape of a five pointed star.) But then some colors are named after certain things. For instance there is lemon yellow, lime green, rose ( which is a very light pink), and even plum.

hmmm... a more deeper question would be why are all the things called like they are? it's obvious a laptop is named like that because it can be put on Top of your Lap, but why is that part of our leg called a Lap? when did language turned into language? more importantly, why is it called language?
why were fruits and vegies were differentiated? they all grow as plants. and why are they even called plants?
think to yourself why was everything named like this? even if it's because of an old language, why did they even decide it was like that?
