"Over there." Piercingstar signaled with her tail to a mouse eating a seed a few tail-lengths away. "You know how to hunt, don't you? Go catch it, at least try if you don't."

Shadepaw looked at the mouse with a look of determination. He crouched down, but his tail was being dragged on the forest floor. As he crept toward the mouse, his tail slid across the ground, making noise and alerting the mouse, which ran away to safety.
"Mousedung..." Shadepaw cursed under his breath as he stood up.

"Don't worry, will catch it later. I can hear a rabbit nearby, don't make a sound and watch me." The rabbit looked tired and weary, but also plump and round. A good meal for her kits back at camp. Crouching low, she lowered her tail gently, silently landing on the crunchy leaves below. The rabbit's ears pricked, but only because it had spotted a green leaf. She leaped, her claws unsheathed as she grabbed the rabbit's pelt and killed it swiftly with a nip to the neck. She buried her prey in the leaves, sniffing the air. "See if you can catch this next rabbit I smell."

Shadepaw nodded, and looked around. He saw the rabbit, and crouched, but this time he lowered his tail so it was a paw-length off the ground, and silently crept towards it. The wind blew, but thankfully Shadepaw was downwind. He leapt, doing what Piearcingstar did, but he stiffened right before he killed the rabbit. The rabbit wriggled out of Shadepaw's grasp, but Shadepaw didn't even try to chase after it. His eyes were fixed in the direction of the Riverclan border.
"What is it, Shadepaw?" Piercingstar asked.
"It's Riverclan. There are Riverclan cats on their side of the border, but... I think they're waiting for something."

Piercingstar looked. It seemed as if all of RiverClan were there... "Shadepaw, go back to camp and get a patrol. Now." Not even checking to see if Shadepaw had followed her command, she climbed up into a tree, sitting on a branch high enough for them not to detect her, but low enough for her to leap out if she needed to. Below, the cats were bustling, murmuring about something... But what?

Shadepaw ran back to camp. He burst into it and yowled, "Piercingstar needs a patrol!"

Shimmerstar sat at the front of the group with Dappledstream and Dewheart.
"Honestly, Dewheart, when did I tell you I needed all of Riverclan here?" Shimmerstar sighed.
"Well, I just thought-" Dewheart began.
"That we want to fight NOW?" Dappledstream hissed.
"Dappledstream." Shimmerstar fixed her sister with a look that said, 'I can handle this'. "Dewheart, we only came here for a warning, not a fight." She continued to her best friend.
"Sorry." The grey tom muttered.

"Apparently a warning means... No, no nevermind. I can't be rambling to myself now." Piercingstar's parents had died in a warning battle against RiverClan. They had tried to take over Sunning Rocks, and her parents had fallen victim to the swollen, boisterous rivers of RiverClan. She had always blamed it on RiverClan for drawing her parents there in the first place.

Pebbleheart padded over to the middle of the clearing. He knew it was some type of skirmish. "Shadepaw, I need you to go with the patrol and guide them to this place." Raising his voice to a strong, firm tone, he called the patrol over. "Blackstripe, Icepaw, Lionstrike, and Bearclaw will be going, along with me and Shadepaw. We are going to fight a border skirmish on this patrol. No time to get ready, Shadepaw, lead the way!"

Shadepaw nodded, and lead the cats to the Riverclan border.

"Shimmerstar!" graynose yowled. "do you want me there to?"

Shimmerstar's ears pricked up and she looked back.
"Ah, Greynose. Yes, come up next to me. If Thunderclan takes this the wrong way and fights, it would be nice to have a medicine cat here." Shimmerstar replied.

Pebbleheart sniffed. "I smell RiverClan!" he hissed. Looking up into the tree, he saw a tail dangling lightly, curling itself. "Climb up this tree. Silently," he whispered, scrambling up easily to a rather high branch. "Bearclaw, Lionstrike, hide in those shrubs over there. Blackstripe, Icepaw, and Shadepaw. Up here."

Shadepaw sunk his claws into the bark and hauled himself onto the tree.
"What do you suppose Riverclan wants?" Shadepaw whispered.
