Okay, so gaming isn't essential for life. But neither is TV or even deodorant. However, apparently non-gamers think that we're wasting our time playing games.

Excuse me?

Yeah, we all can't game all the time, but video games help our brains (not talking about just Tetris, either). All television does is rot them. Heck, a whole lot of gamers, including me, have really high grades in school.

Also, non-gamers seem to think that just because we play "violent" games (though some people keep to kid-friendly games like Mario and Pokemon) means we're violent and therefore the exact reason behind why there's so many darn murders.



Video games are actually supposed to help you calm down. Because there's nothing more relaxing than stomping on Goombas or throwing dynamite at a gang hideout Western-style, and it's better than doing it in real life.

There's also a misconception that female gamers are terrible. I had this problem when I told a couple of female non-gamers I play Pokemon. The rest of the conversation went that they kept telling me that it was a boys' game (why is it a boys' game when there's a gender selection for most of the games?) and I should play "girly girl games". Well, I'll have you know I recently beat Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team in under three days. And I was a Totodile, which usually has trouble in the game as it is a Water-type and Pokemon of that type tend to get mauled.

Well, I live in the middle of nowhere so non-gamers are not that much of a thing for me, so.... yeah...

I live in a suburban city with a population of 10K, maybe 15K, so I encounter both gamers and non-gamers. Though every time I see a misconception by either side, I'm like this fabulous Heracross.

But yeah, when I was looking for funny pictures about female gamers, I kept seeing the prejudice the girls face on games like Call of Duty.

Yeah, that's one thing I hate about some people. Some are kinda' s/exist and are like: "Oooh! I bet you don't even play games because you're a GIRL.", "Pffft. Don't be stupid. Girls don't play video games!", and "Well I bet you're just another one of those "gamer gurlz"." The "gamer gurlz" are the ones that are really annoying. ._. They're basically attention wh*res. "Oooh. Look at me. I'm playing Grand Theft Auto! Lol I have no idea what I'm doing." "Oh! You have to let me have the power-up because I'm a girl." THAT gets super annoying. ._. And there are some people who think that ALL girls that play video games are like that, and that isn't true.
Granted, I wouldn't exactly count myself as a gamer as I only play like 5 different types of games, (and by 'types' I mean franchises. Ex. Mario, Sonic, Legend of Zelda, etc) but still. Doesn't mean that I do that. :L Ask Blue how many times he's kicked my arse in SSB4. xD He'll back me up on this too: I've never been like: "Oh! Go easy on me! I'm just a poor hailplass girl! Dx" (Spelled it like that on purpose. xD Say it that way, and you'll get it. :P)
And then you also have some idiots that are all like: "Look at that idiot. Playing games. Bet he/she's never read a book or anything.", "How often do they go outside and play?", etc. That's kinda' offensive. Yes, I play video games, but I still read books (no Blue, not just my Sonic comics. ._.) and go outside and such. :L I went to the park not too long ago, as a matter of fact. :I
And yep, some games DO actually help you. Some of the faster-paced games, I heard, help you with reflexes. Plus some are educational and help you with real world things. Plus there are some puzzle games that help your brain think. (Legend of Zelda temples. :D) True. You CAN just go look up cheat codes, but that's kinda' not playing the game. :I Plus, in order to GET the cheat codes, someone would've had to beat the game, FIRST. >:D So there. :3 It's possible to beat games without cheats. (If you think about it, using cheat codes is kinda' like making someone else play the game for you.)
And no, video games DON'T make people violent. :L That's like saying that guns kill people and spoons make people fat. :I No. People HOLDING the gun, and FIRING the gun are what kills people, not the gun itself. Without anyone's finger on the trigger, it doesn't go off. People eating stuff in the spoons, and putting more into the spoons is what makes them fat. NOT the spoon itself. I'm not fat, and we've got like a hundred million thousand spoons in here. :I There are some idiots who DO 'play the game irl'. They are just stupid. How many times have you seen in the news where someone died or got arrested for doing something like 'playing GTA irl'? And how many people do you know that DO play GTA who aren't stupid enough to try half the things in said game? So no, that's just really stupid. ._.
